A Backwards Grrl on Backwards Earth |
Hello, my name is Teresa Sanuki or "Terra-san" as my friends like to call me. I am a half-Puerto Rican/half-Japanese girl from California. Big fan of comics, manga, cartoons, and vidya. Hope we get along well as I ramble along, :P |
me / anyone: [ asks for a bit of representation from major media franchises ]
someone: “If you want representation, make your own stuff!”
me: “I’m too sober for this.” [ chugs enough vodka to get alcohol poisoning ]I don’t understand why you think that’s the case all the time. I don’t like her for two major reasons.
1. She’s just a trophy that’s going to eventually going to get tossed aside for Tony Stark again.
2. Marvel has a history of publishing stories like this just for the sake of creating controversy and getting a lot of money for whatever new #1 they push out every 9 months. It’s no different then current Thor or Captain America being Hydra that they went back on a month later or any problematic story they make that hits the news.
I’d much rather have more characters like Kamala Khan who at least have a shot at sticking rather then this hollow feeling I get from characters like Riri or Jane Foster. She’s unfortunately going to be a foot note like Eddie March or Eric Masterson.
My comment is referencing specifically those who say “If you want representation, make your own stuff!” Which, is fairly common in my experience, and which I have witnessed. That’s all it was referencing. I said nothing about believing all criticism to be of that nature.
I also admitted I didn’t know anything about Riri, so I cannot comment further on how her story is and will be handled. But I have seen comments reacting to the news that are purely “If you want representation, make your own stuff!” and that’s ugly and unacceptable in any context.
Oh, sorry about that if it seems I’m lashing out at you. I’m just a disgruntled fan who’s up too late and read one too many posts of people blindly praising things that are obviously temporary and we know next to nothing about.

Just saw this on my dash….ughhhh
I am so glad tumblr isn’t in charge of movies
Show me a fucking movie where that’s been the gay characters. I keep seeing these “kill the straights writers” and “oh they’re gay, how long until one of them dies?” Posts and it makes zero sense to me.
Also characters written for their sexuality instead of their personalities that may or may not include sexuality are usually boring as tar.
It’s not so much that but there is an entire trope named for it Bury Your Gays. It’s changing in more recent movies, but it was a major theme in earlier movies. There have been plenty of well written gay characters, it’s just that because of them being gay, a tragedy often happens. This was really popular in the 90s with the AIDS epidemic making this a credited trope
The only way to survive in movies in the 90′s is if your sexualilty was either obscured or not defined. Most of the time, if the character was gay in any way, they were likely going to die (Link to trope provides best examples)
The reason why we’re unhappy is the same reason why people of color are tied of seeing white princesses, or white superheros. (Those few that come to your mind are the exception, not the rule, that is the problem) Representation matters to us, this is just us lashing out in frustration. It’s not good, it’s not healthy, but it’s pretty darn funny from our perspective because straight people have been killing us in media for years.
Okay, but the 90s have been over for almost twenty years. Based on what I’ve seen in recent stuff being gay tends to make a character safer. Like it’s gotten really noticeably better and people still seem to be holding onto a weird grudge.
I’m also worried that this kind of mentality is going to lead to people being written for their sexuality instead of their character. Personally I’d find a bisexual character who’s only real trait is being bisexual way more insulting than not.
“Those few that come to your mind are the exception, not the rule, that is the problem” The fuck is that even supposed to mean? Sounds to me like someone was just setting up a safety net for when someone points out how wrong they are.
With super heroes, aside from Black Panther, name ONE Super Hero who dose not have a white version of himself. (Anti-Heroes do not count) Lets move on to Disney; One Black princess, One Middle Eastern princess, One Native American, and a Chinese Female Warrior; At least seven White Princesses, and a Queen. The representation is skewed and these princesses are equate to the token characters that you get in a power ranger’s line up. The Black one, the Asian one and the Middle eastern/Native American one while the rest are White.
My point is, the people who are whining about this? Yeah, we often have a reason why we’re whining, and the facts to back up our bitterness. “Safety net?” Naw, those are the few able to grab on to the high wire as everyone else plummeted to the floor devoid of one. Hollywood is a circus.
@curiooftheheart I will be civil and drop the subject but if you want me to be petty and bitter, please send me a note. I don’t air my drama for the public, but I will pour you the sweetest glass of lemonade made from the lemons life has dealt me.
But there has been a white Black Panther before. Kevin Cole from Christopher Priest‘s run. Besides that, how many do you want me to name? I’ll do it

thelonesambone-deactivated20210 asked: Did you hear about the feminists shoving crucifixes up their asses in the middle of the Vatican square or something to express their hatred towards God?
FEMEN is a monstrosity.
Personally I would have just got a chair and stared with a blank look on my face just to see if self-awareness kicks in.
I actually agree with this. Let me just tap into the Vagina Force, hey, it’s how it works for those red heads in the X-Men.
I think I finally figured out why SJW’s are so irrational.
The Greeks were the fathers of logic and reason. They actively avoid those things because they don’t want to be guilty of cultural appropriation.
“the Greeks were the fathers of logic and reason” yet they…
Do you even know what cultural appropriation is, because if you do you would know that you are using it out of context and incorrectly. The countries in Africa never stole anything and never tried to claim it as there own if it wasn’t there’s. Do you atleast know the definition of stealing?? Learning and taking things from a different prospective they probably did but the Greeks literally went over to Africa learned what they could and try to claim it as there own. They were not the founding fathers of logic and reason literally everyone else had the same ideas and concepts, if not better than theirs. Please don’t act as if the Greeks were the only ones who had thought of this. Because plenty of evidence will tell you otherwise.
Greeks did it first you fucking retard. Before 600BC. It was their idea, other people adopted it. And you’re double retarded, because Africa literally wen’t to Europe, conquered it, enslaved its people, and stole its lands and cultures. Now go read a fucking history book before I just take one and physically beat some sense into you with it.
Omfg!! Just because they were the first to get accreditation for it doesn’t mean they thought of the ideas first. And what part or country of Africa because I’m sure the entire continent did not contribute. You are incorrectly using the term appropriation and literally nobody is guilty of anything. And you are stupid to think that history books hold all the correct knowledge in the world. Maybe you shouldn’t believe everything you see? Until again durkin62

Not the entire continent? Even so, how does the fact some Africans did not participate in these actions excuse them yet the entirety of ancient Greece which was made up of several city states with differing opinions gets complete accountability? Double standards are fun.

Honestly, there isn’t much need for men anyways. We all have vibrators and modern technology allows us to use in-vitro fertilization, so we just need sperm and stuff and then we feminists can eliminate all men yay
Sperm doesn’t last forever, you’re going to need to renew the supply eventually and there isn’t enough to ensure the population won’t take a drop unless you go around milking guys. Besides kill off half the population of world, the body problem will fix itself, right? If only we had more people to help get rid of all this but wait, you say the rotting corpses and drop in genetic diversity has caused a plague that’s wiping out good chunks of the already now smaller population? Oh well, it was a nice ride.
